What could Fair Trade Energy look like? What might that even mean?
As part of my ongoing speculative fabulation with Dawn Nafus, we have been exploring this concept alongside questions of federation, permacomputing, and a hopeful future for energy-computing.
Our paper ‘Federated Fair Trade Energy: Speculative Fabulation for a Planet with Limits‘ is published as part of LIMITS 2026: 12th Workshop on Computing within Limits. In this paper we have a podcast with the author of the Fair Trade Manifesto, and a discussion of how Fair Trade Energy works, how it supports trading skills and coding, as well as energy accross communities, and how it can support a different approach to #permacomputing.
